A historical overview of the department

Department of Food Science and Technology

The Department of Food Science and Technology at the College of Food Sciences / University of Tikrit – Al-Shirqat Campus was established in 2024 in response to the growing need to develop the food industry sector in Iraq, particularly in Salah al-Din Governorate and the surrounding areas. The establishment of the department came in line with global advancements in food sciences, aiming to prepare specialized scientific cadres capable of improving food quality and safety while strengthening food security in the country.

The department seeks to graduate students who are academically and practically qualified in the fields of food processing, preservation, and analysis, in addition to promoting applied scientific research that serves the local industry. It also strives to build partnerships with governmental and private sectors to achieve sustainable development in the food sector.

Since its establishment, the department has prioritized the development of curricula aligned with international academic standards and the provision of a comprehensive learning environment that includes modern laboratories and practical training. This contributes to preparing a generation of specialists in food science and technology capable of addressing contemporary food-related challenges.
